Obedience does its own work

During my prayer time this morning, those are the words the Lord spoke to me… And of course, I responded with the not- so-internal eye roll. I mean, doesn’t that sound just like a parent - trying to convince you that your odious chores are actually “good for you?“

But now, as I am on my way to the gym to work out with a bunch of people who are training for a mini triathlon, I get His point!

These people are showing up at OrangeTheory today not just because they have discipline, but for the more important reason; to train their muscles.

Are they doing the same exact activities that they will face in the triathlon? No. But as they put in the time and dedication now; to lift weights, build, endurance, gain strength… They will be prepared when race day comes.

That made me think about my prayer life. Sitting down every morning, being obedient, having the discipline to do it, is not easy.

He doesn’t always speak to me. Sometimes I just sit there for the seven minutes and… Nothing!

But just like those athletes, I too am training for a future race. A future challenge.

And when that day comes, if I have taken the discipline to seek God now, it will be automatic “muscle memory” for me to see Him then.

You know… God is pretty smart! He covered all of that and just the title to this post.
